There are living rooms and then there are living rooms

If we were asked to describe a living room, most of us would probably mention a couch, a carpet, a TV, a seasonal Christmas tree, perhaps even nan and grandad. But we rarely think of living rooms, which changed the course of history. Well, it was literally one floor above such a living room, where the idea behind Sady 10 came about.

Where there’s will, there’s a way. After being banned from performing and filming by the communist regime, the dissident couple, Vlasta Chramostová and Stanislav Milota, began to rehearse, perform, and record underground productions in their apartment. They have staged four performances in total, oftentimes collaborating with like-minded artists from their generation including Václav Havel, Luboš Pistorius, and Pavel Kohout.

And though Vlasta Chramostová resumed her acting pursuits after the Velvet Revolution and eventually returned to the stage of the National Theatre, said living room had forever enshrined itself in Czech theatre history...

BURNOUT

2023

Are you single? Do you read books, do yoga, call your therapist and despite all that, in comes Tuesday night and you can't help but feel like a non-recyclable yoghurt pot?

Well, you cannot expect rainbows and unicorns from BURNOUT. It's not a hundredth play about how fulfilling it is to be single. It's a play, which stems from the need to acknowledge that loneliness can get treacherous and ugly. It's a play about endless seeking and zero finding, about a fleet of sunken situationships and your fatigued index finger swiping through hundreds of bland faces on a dating app. It's a play about complete and absolute burnout from the never-ending wave of beginnings and premature endings. It's not a play about 21st century dating. It's a play about its aftermath.

About us

There are living rooms and then there are living rooms.

Unlike its predecessor, our theatre company does not have to operate clandestinely. And though the circumstances of its creation cannot be equated with totalitarian oppression, the story of our building contributed greatly to the spark, which ignited our project.

In the murky depths of the 2020 pandemic, all theatres had to be closed. In the 1970’s our building stood witness to the forces of artistic resistance. In the 2020’s it fuelled our need to grapple with the sudden lack of culture we faced. Thus, the very first play (somewhat unimaginatively) titled The Corona Monologues began to take form. Its purpose was simple - to give a newly formed group of artists a semblance of certainty during unprecedented times. Its rehearsal process and eventual premiere took place right above the former dissident living room and thus paid its respects to its ancestors.

Being entirely bewitched by the intimacy and borderline voyeurism stemming from the apartment setting, we decided to formalise our group of creatives and mould it into an actual theatre company. Since then, Sady 10 have been focusing on up close and personal, site-responsive and pop-up performances, seating its audiences in the midst of whatever it is that happens behind closed doors.

Maku

LLB, MFA

In 2019, Maku completed her LLB at King's College London, channelling her creative efforts into Intellectual Property Law and Shakespeare and the Law. After graduating, she spent a year studying at the London Academy of Musical and Dramatic Arts (LAMDA), where she learned the basics of construction, lighting, sound, and stage management. Since her studies got interrupted by the Covid pandemic, she compensated for time lost by founding the Sady 10 apartment theatre company. By 2023, she graduated with first class honours from Trinity College Dublin (The Lir Academy) and obtained her Master's Degree in theatre directing. Currently, she is the creative director and chief lion tamer of the Sady 10 team.

Original Works:  Vienna (2016), The Corona Monologues (2021), Completely out of Line (2022), & BURNOUT (2023).

Aneta Kölblová

Aneta is a core member of the Sady 10 ensemble. Her acting career commenced at 16 and she has performed in leading and supporting roles in Prague-based English language theatres since. Her fondest performances include Pinter’s Ruth (The Homecoming), Chekhov’s Natalya (A Marriage Proposal), Havel’s Ballas (Memorandum), Reza’s Ivan (Art), Dorfman’s Paulina (Death and the Maiden), and Maku’s Fern (BURNOUT), who takes centre stage in our original one-woman show. No Aneta, no Sady 10.

Dan Collins

Having designed menus, posters, labels, logos, obscure theatre props, and even whiskey glasses, Dan's portfolio encompasses a wide range of clients, including Nightjar, Callooh Callay and Hilton. Dan's love for fantasy and sci-fi, his in-depth understanding of colour theory and his obsession with the most miniscule of details is what makes his work instantly recognisable and memorable. We are the first to acknowledge that it is a great privilege to have him on board, as his talent is precisely what glues the Sady 10 aesthetic together. When he is not groaning at Photoshop, Dan dabbles in acting and voice acting for theatre, films, and even videogames. His credits include Carnival Row, Kingdom Come Deliverance, and Death and the Maiden.

Martin Večeřa

With a passion for capturing the essence and beauty of various subjects, Martin specialises in delivering stunning photography ranging from portraits to theatre and event photography. Thanks to his ability to always capture the perfect dramatic shot, Martin's portfolio includes clients like Design Block, Blood Love and Rhetoric theatre, Artinii, and more. Through these collaborations, he has honed his craft and established a reputation for excellence in the industry. He is a major contributor to and a driving force behind the visuals of Sady 10.

Radka Vlachová

With a proven track record in devising effective marketing strategies and crafting compelling content, Radka is poised to significantly impact the theatre community, utilising her skills as a Marketing Consultant to enhance visibility, engagement, and audience reach. Her expertise in social media management and marketing strategy has led to successful campaigns for organisations like PIARISTI, where she has leveraged her skills to drive brand awareness and foster meaningful connections. Radka's endless drive, determination and spark is what has pushed Sady 10 to invest into its growth. In other words, it is thanks to her that we can proudly add our instagram handle on our business cards.
